Keep Your Fibroids in Check: Foods to Avoid

Not just for fibroids, but for your overall health, let’s try to be mindful not only of what we eat but also of the things we might want to avoid!

Foods You Might Want to Avoid if You Have Uterine Fibroids

"Foods that can lead to higher estrogen levels"

Fibroids tend to grow when your body has too much estrogen. (Excess estrogen is also linked to things like endometriosis, and even certain cancers.)

So if you’re trying to keep fibroids in check, it helps to stay away from foods that might push your estrogen levels up.

Here are a few to watch out for:

1. Meat and eggs from animals raised with hormones or antibiotics

Cheaper meat and eggs can sometimes contain leftover antibiotics or hormone treatments like estradiol (a type of estrogen) that were used to make the animals grow faster or stay healthy.

The feed these animals eat often includes GMO corn and other genetically modified crops.

Processed meats like bacon, sausages, and ham also tend to have additives that aren’t great for you.

If you really enjoy them, try to look for versions labeled as additive-free—no colorants, binders, or preservatives.

2. Dairy products (milk, yogurt, butter, cheese, etc.)

Many dairy cows are given growth hormones to increase milk production, and some of those hormones can end up in the milk itself.

Milk taken from cows during pregnancy or after giving birth contains higher levels of female hormones, which can contribute not only to uterine fibroids but also to hormone-related cancers and infertility.

Dairy products made from such milk have elevated, concentrated levels of estrogen.

Try choosing organic or hormone-free options whenever possible.

Small swaps can make a big difference for your fibroids and overall health.

Be mindful of what you eat, and your body will thank you!
