Can Emotions Affect Your Physical Health ?

Our emotions can affect how our body feels, just as our physical condition can affect how we feel emotionally.

Stress and strong emotions can make us feel irritable or anxious, cause changes in digestion, or make it difficult to relax and sleep.

This connection between emotions and the body has long been recognised in traditional Eastern medicine.

Emotions and the five organ systems

In traditional Eastern medicine, seven emotions such as anger, joy, worry, sadness, grief, fear and fright are linked to five organ: the Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lung and Kidney.

We can see the connection between emotions and the body in everyday life.

  • A young child can wet themselves when they are scared.

  • Prolonged tension can upset the stomach and bowels.

  • When we are suddenly frightened, our heart may race and our breathing may change.

These are familiar examples of how emotions can affect the body physically.

Traditional Eastern medicine explores these connections further, considering how different emotions relate to the five organ systems, and how the body's condition can also influence our emotional state.

At THE CORE WELLNESS CLINIC, I combine traditional Eastern approaches with clinical knowledge and nursing experience.
