Why Do Bloating and Pelvic Tension Often Happen Before Your Period?
Many of my clients share that before their period, they notice bloating together with a feeling of heaviness or tension around their pelvis and lower back.
These changes can feel uncomfortable, especially when they seem to happen at the same time.
Although they may feel like separate concerns, they can sometimes be influenced by the same changes happening within the body.

Hormones Changes Before Your Period
Throughout the menstrual cycle, hormone levels naturally rise and fall.
Before your period, these hormonal changes can affect digestion, fluid balance and muscle tension.
For some women, digestion slows down during this time, which may contribute to bloating, constipation or a feeling of fullness in the abdomen.
When the abdomen feels fuller, nearby muscles and tissues may also feel tighter or more sensitive, which can sometimes be noticed around the pelvic or lower back.

The Abdomen and Pelvis Work Together
The abdomen and pelvis are closely connected through muscles, connective tissues and the nervous system.
Rather then working separately, these areas constantly adapt to one another during everyday movement.
This may help explain why bloating and pelvic tension are sometimes experienced together.
It doesn't mean that bloating always causes pelvic tension. Instead, it reminded us that different parts of the body can influence one another.
Supporting Your Body
Every woman's experience is different, and these changes may not happen every cycle.
Simple things such as gentle breathing, light movement, stretching, or using warmth may help you more comfortable during this time.
Paring attention to how your body changes throughout your cycle can also help you recognise your own patterns and better understand what feels normal for you.
At The Core Wellness Clinic, we take time to understand each woman's experience and provide personalised, hands-on care with a whole-body approach to woman's health.
